Text: Genesis 1:26
Being in love can be described as a state of mind where two (2) parties through felt emotions or conscious decisions agree to selflessly care for each other and act in the best interest of each other.
This concept of being in love is arguably the most universal concept of life that is understood by all adults in the world. It transcends religion, race, tribe, language and any other category that segments us as people.
And it didn't come to be so by accident, but by God's grand design from the beginning of life when He formed us for the purpose of showering His love on us. So that we can in turn love Him with all our hearts, souls and minds.
Here are 4 things about being in love with God that we need to understand:
- God loved us first- unconditionally. 1 John 4:19 CEV, Genesis 1:26 GNT
- God loved us with the intention of being the supreme being in our lives. Exodus 20:3 EASY
- It's designed to serve as a template for all other loving relationships. 1 John 4:19 EASY
- He wants us to help others have the same relationship with Him. Matthew 28:19a EASY
So, what do we need to do to be in love with God?
- Accept the Lordship of Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit. John 14:6 NLT
- Be committed to a lifetime relationship with Him. Mark 12:29 CEV
- Acknowledge Him in all our affairs. Proverbs 3:5-6
- Worship Him. Luke 4:8 NLT
- Live an acceptable life that pleases God. Romans 12:1, Mark 12:29-30 CEV
We’re able to live our best lives when we’re in love with God because we become friends of God. And these happen to us when we're God’s friends:
- God prioritizes us in His agenda. Genesis 17:1-2, 4 NLT
- He gives us a long life. John 3:16
- He takes care of us. Exodus 20:6 NLT, Romans 8:28
Action Plan
